Lloydminster

On Feb 13 TH the Home Invasion and Vancouver Police Informant faded into the past as "The Hit" awoke considering Jeff in the Crime Stoppers Video. "The Hit" thought his trouble with Jimmy The Junkie and his Crew would be over now, finally. He did knot know if Jeff was in on the Home Invasion, but he knew for certain that Jeff would soon be caught soon after the Crime Stoppers Video was aired on the CBC. When these Crime Stoppers Video's were aired, someone on the street in Vancouver wanted the money. Jeff would not last long with his freedom. Jeff's situation is a sad commentary on life on the Vancouver Eastside. Jeff is an addict at the time. Finally, Jeff resorts to robbing a confectionary to support his habit. Then, his street friends call Crime Stoppers to claim cash to support their own habit. "The Hit" can't quite put his finger on what is wrong in the big picture. He thinks of Barb in Aldergrove where their little plants were pain medicine for her head injury. Just who did that benefit?

It all comes back to the Mysterious Financier, and "The Hit" considered the end of the summer in Ridgedale in 1996 for the search for the Mysterious Financier. In early August "The Hit" had an opportunity to get out of Ridgedale while avoiding the racing Greyhound. Don was one of Healy's road construction workers from Ridgedale, and he came to pick up a new tire for his Terex Loadrunner. Healy's construction was working in Northeast Saskatchewan in the Paradise Hill area, and Don was heading back to work with his Chevy 1/2 Ton to the road construction crew. "The Hit" hopped in the truck with Don on Sunday August 8 TH just after noon. The tire filled the Chevy 1/2 Ton box, and the Terex tire very heavy load for the half ton. "The Hit" was going to catch up to Harvey's Run in Lloydminster after tagging along through St. Brieux, Humboldt, Watrous, Ear Falls, Oxdrift, and Shaunavon. In Burnaby, "The Hit" could not see the origin of the Mysterious Financier in Ridgedale in the summer of 1976, and he was looking forward to preparing a demonstration for David on the status of the Onlineglass-com project.

"The Hit" reviewed the progress of his industry contacts in Pennsylvania, the IGA, Russia and potential leads for David to consider regarding his potential investment. He brought himself completely up to date on NAGS which had been sold to Mitchell International in 1991, and he again considered their operation in San Diego California. "The Hit" tried to continued to improve the Onlineglass-com demonstration software, however the time had come to start working on an industrial strength version of the software. This would require high speed Internet access with the ability to server up the new industrial strength beta versions with NT 4.0 on the Internet. "The Hit" finished of the day by picking up some food with the last of his cash at the Safeway in the Kensignton Square. He was not surprised to see that the street was pretty ugly for him yet, because the Mysterious Financier had been showing his picture around on the street for at least 8 months. He finished the grocery trip believing that things would get better for him in the future. "The Hit" knew Jimmy and his Crew were out of the picture, but he still searched for the origin of the Mysterious Financier.

Don and "The Hit" drove slowly on the 413 kilometre from Ridgedale heading Northwest to Paradise Hill. They took the secondary roads through much of the trip. They could only travel at about 65 - 75 k with the heavy Terex tire in the back. They started on the # 335 Highway through to Gronlid where they turned left at the # 6 Highway passing Fairy Glen on the 15 kilometres before they turning right on the # 778 Highway. The grid road system cut the golden crops through to the right hand turn at near Weldon where the grid road became the # 3 Highway. The #3 Highway continued past Birch Hills where they made a right turn for 57 kilometres passing the South Saskatchewan River before arriving in Prince Albert. They turned north on 2 ND Ave West to the # 2 Highway which crossed the North Saskatchewan River. The grid road system had changed to Spruce Trees with mixed popular on the edge of the Boreal Forest on the # 3 Highway / # 55 Highway towards Holbien. The cleaver grid road system found roots as they approached Shellbrook. The Red Wheat was back on the west side of Shellbrook. They continued past Mont Nebo through broken patches of wheat and Boreal Forest where they stopped on the west side of Shell Lake for a meal at on the shores of Big Shell Lake. The Telus bells interrupted the trip to "The Hit's" new home.

David was ready to meet up that evening if "The Hit" was available. David came by later that night, and they talked about the project. "The Hit" was as informative as possible. "The Hit" knew what full disclosure meant in the software business. Your failure will be guided by silence, and if you success you will not see silence in the courts. He disclosed everything. He talked about Broco, Torsten, Zepplin, NAGS, Garth, Garth's Mother, the HSBC bank account, his rental agreement, Winsoft, the Speed Auto Glass demonstration, the Progressive Insurance demonstration, the UDI and Independent Auto Glass demonstration in Pennsylvania, the Sherman Anti Trust Act, the IGA, Russian potential, and the concepts of the software. "The Hit" showed David a demonstration of the software which included visual verification of body damage. "The Hit" tried to represent auto glass industry in it's current state of affairs, and why the auto glass industry was ready for such a product. David was interested. He explained that he had been doing his research since they last met. "The Hit" was clear to explain that this was to much for one programmer. He would need help. David suggested "The Hit" should follow up on the Russian contact. Could he get a hold of Hulia Karmanova again? "The Hit" said he would try again. The meeting was very successful. David would return after work the next day.

The next morning on February 14 TH "The Hit" thought back to the trip to Lloydminster while he booted his computers with more hope for the project than ever. Don and "The Hit" left the shores of Big Shell Lake heading west on the #3 Highway through Mildred, Spiritwood, and Glaslyn. The Terex tire was 1,133 kilograms making the trip very hard on the Chevy 1/2 Ton, and Don and "The Hit" took it slow in respect for his personal truck. They took it slow through Livelong, Turtleford, Spruce Lake, and St Walburg before they were to drop the tire off on the west side of Paradise Hill. They were just passed FrenchMan Butte when they crossed the Yellowstone River when they saw death. A car in front of them went head on into another car on hill rising up on the west side of the river. The impact likely meant the end of the trip for the occupants on the historic trip along the 2000 kilometre trail from Winnipeg to Edmonton. Don told "The Hit" to stay inside, and he put his road construction expertise to work. He had flairs out, and he was directing traffic in minutes. He turned someone to a farmers house to call for the police and ambulance. He sent flag men in both directions due the location close to the bottom of both hills and the approach of the bridge. He knew what he was doing. He came back to the truck to let "The Hit" know he had a ride for him heading the rest of the way into Lloydminster. "The Hit" asked Don if they were going to make it. It was more of an answer than the young hit was expecting. It was maybe "one".

He tried to concentrate on his work in Burnaby. The day went by quickly as he contacted Hulia Karmanova again, and later that evening David came by to go over the project. David decided that the past history of the project should not be a problem. "The Hit" reminded him about his arrangement with Garth regarding the rent. David wanted to start fresh. David and "The Hit" agreed that a new residence would be the best to move forward. "The Hit" reminded David that Winsoft still had close to $4000.00 in the HSBC bank account from the second investment by Garth's mother in Winsoft. Both David and "The Hit" agreed that they would leave the money in the HSBC account with Garth as signing authority. "The Hit" reminded David that he would have no money for rent or expenses without the HSBC money or Garth's investment through rent. The evening meeting went well, and they would try to make a move around the end of the month. They smoked a joint in the car port, and "The Hit" thought he heard the Mysterious Financier's crew in the distance. David left, and "The Hit" went to sleep.

On Feb 15 TH "The Hit" awoke with Bertha by his side, and he vainly hoped the noise outside the previous night was not the Mysterious Financier's crew. He fell into the routine Onlineglass-com database work, and he thought about the origin of the Mysterious Financier. The accident on the west side of Paradise Hill was the last time "The Hit" would see Don from Healy's. Don planned to drive "The Hit" the rest of the way to Lloydminster, after they dropped off the tire at the road construction bunkhouse west of the Frenchman Butte River. However, he was able to ask a person who stopped for the accident to finish their trip to Lloydminster with "The Hit" in tow. They agreed. "The Hit" moved his bag from the box of the Chevy 1/2 Ton into the truck of a full sized Sedan. They drove up the hill leaving the banks of the Frenchman Butte River and the accident in the rear view mirror. They were quiet during the 25 kilometres on the # 3 Highway to the Saskatchewan / Alberta border. They turned left at the border for the final 21 kilometres heading south on the # 17 Highway to Lloydminster. "The Hit" was quiet. He was unusually quiet. He spoke when spoken to with respect. His mind was on the accident. Don and "The Hit" drove hard to the bridge before the accident. They started up at what "The Hit" believe to be full throttle. The Chevy pulled up the hill the best it could with the 1,133 kilograms Terex tire in the box. The little truck could take the hill, but it slowed quickly as the car flew past them into a head on collision. "The Hit" felt sick. He did not want to talk about it. Could this be the origin of the Mysterious Financier? David was unable to come by this evening after work at Pearls, and "The Hit" called it the day.

On February 16 TH he awoke after a night of the Black Van hooting and hollering behind the neighbours garage to the north. The Mysterious Financier was obviously still financing someone in the alley. He worked on the project, and he thought back to Lloydminster. They arrived into Lloydminster on the # 17 Highway which became 50 TH Ave in Lloydminster. The family with the sedan offered to drive him home, but he did not know where Harvey's Run ended this time. He went alone. It turned into a long haul with his bag, but he didn't mind. He had the address. He figured out the Lloydminster numbering system, and he asked for help at the service station on the Yellowhead Highway going through Lloydminster. He went west on the Yellowhead Highway before turning north on 45 TH Avenue until he reached 48 TH Street where he saw the Trailer Court to the east. He found the Ford LTD Station wagon, and he was home. It was a 14 FT house trailer house trailer which was much bigger than the 8 FT trailer they had previously. "The Hit" knocked on the door. Meanwhile, in Burnaby "The Hit" pondered whether the accident could be the origin of the Mysterious Financier. He slept.

On February 17 TH "The Hit" continued with the project guarded by the camera in the window studying the course white gravel along the side of the house. His commitment plans to move at the end of the month slid to the back burner behind emailing a list of auto glass industry contacts to David. He was out of cash with David's new plans as he would not take any money out of the HSBC bank account. The Home Invasion evaporated from both the media and his focus, however it was apparent that the Mysterious Financier still had some of Jimmy The Junkie or his Crew in the Black Van the previous night in the alley. "The Hit" was becoming reliant on David for the project. He felt guilty about leaving Garth and his mother with the Onlineglass-com project. He decided he would cut them in out of his portion of the company when the project succeeded. He had already discussed cutting his friend Bob into the project for introducing him to David, and Bob had helped with moving, errands, pictures, and general support. "The Hit" did not feel any remaining obligation to Broco, as he had written everything himself for the web site and demonstration running on Onlineglass-com since leaving Zepplin. The day passed quickly, and "The Hit" went to sleep with Bertha. While he lay in bed he thought back to Lloydminster, and his obsession with who was the Mysterious Financier.

The accident couldn't be the origin of the Mysterious Financier. It was irresponsible of the car that passed them as they pulled up Paradise Hill leaving the Frenchman Butte River behind. "The Hit" figured they were still doing 65 kilometre per hour on the climb. It was an accident. It was an unfortunate accident. Someone didn't make it home early in the race home after the weekend. The door opened and he was welcomed to Harvey's new pit stop. He took up residence in a room built in the large porch attached to the house trailer. It looked like his few possessions had arrived, and he went to sleep early that night. In the next few weeks before school started, "The Hit" was able to sneak out of the Trailer Court along the railway tracks to an open area where he could ride the Honda 350 without insurance or a license. The area was used by the city as a dumping area soil, and from there he could head north across the Yellowhead Highway into a bigger area which was grassland. He met Brian and Darcy who were his age in his travels, and if he was going to keep up to them he needed a dirt bike. He could not get a license in Saskatchewan at 15 years of age, and this would be the best option. He was going to need some cash for a dirt bike in the spring. He kept to himself as he started Grade 10 at the Lloydminster Composite High School, and he looked for a job once school started. "The Hit" fell asleep in Burnaby believing their was no origin of the Mysterious Financier in St. Brieux, Humboldt, Watrous, Ear Falls, Oxdrift, Shaunavon, Ridgedale, or Lloydminster to date.

The PII Television computer ran through the news while "The Hit" worked on the project. The Vancouver Grizzlies took a big step forward with a win against the hobbled Washington Wizards. It looked like they would match their all-time win total of 15 games for the season set in their expansion season three years ago. The Grizzlies struggling to find a better position on the bottom. "The Hit" laughed. The U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright went to Russia to see Russian officials expressing concerns about the American's planned Nuclear Missile Defence, or NDM program. American Foreign policy brought their most recent "life, liberty, and freedom" story to town. This one was amazingly like the Reagan plan in 1978 which cost the hapless American people 10 Billion which materialized nothing. Today, The Secretary of State talked a good talk, and "The Hit" was sure the flag waving Americans ate it up in the U.S.. They would eat anything. "The Hit" laughed harder. Albright explained to the Russians that this would have a "limited capability to intercept only 20-30 missiles". Like Reagan looking into the stars, this was to "shield the nation from isolated terrorist missile strikes", and with Reagan's 20 year old rhetoric they insisted this should not jeopardize the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. American Foreign Policy insisted that this would not upset strategic stability between the two nuclear powers. "The Hit" laughed even harder. No, it would not effect anything. The Russian second strike capability was well over 1,000 missiles. "The Hit" was starting to wonder how the Mysterious Financier's crew kept going after the Home Invasion. Last night the voices in the alley had not changed. What currency did the Mysterious Financier use?

On Feb 18 TH "The Hit" continued on the Onlineglass-com project while he searched Lloydminster for the origin of the Mysterious Financier. "The Hit" began Grade 10 at 15 years of age at the Lloydminster Public School, and Lorraine began Grade 12 in the same school. Leo finished his summer job at Healy's, and he found a job in Humboldt working at the Yamaha. He worked on Polaris snow machines that winter, and "The Hit" found himself a job at the Lloydminster Co-op packing groceries and stocking shelves. "The Hit" had a councillor for the first time in school, and she encouraged him to pursue a career in law after his first ever IQ test that fall. He met "Old Red Eye" a homeless man who would scrounge for food at the loading dock. He felt sorry for him that fall as he worked in the grocery store. They would give "Old Red Eye" food on occasion. "The Hit" became interested in the fall of the British Pound, and he studied the progress of the American Dollar taking over as the world's currency. He found the rise and fall of empires profound. The fall flew by quickly as "The Hit" kept to himself, and before he knew it he was asking for time off work at the Co-op to visit Leo in Humboldt. He would once again take the town drunks son's job back in St. Brieux. "The Hit" boarded the Greyhound bus in Lloydminster and he was off to Humboldt for Christmas. Meanwhile, "The Hit" called it the day again on the project to get some sleep in Burnaby.

"The Hit" worked on the Onlineglass-com project from Feb 19 TH to Feb 26 TH. He kept in touch with Hulia Karmanova with little jobs, and he gave her little jobs to help him understand what business environment Russia would provide. He learnt about the "system" in Russia, and he sent her a payment of $50.00 US from the Money Mart on Hastings Street using Western Union. It was not a lot of money for "The Hit" and David, however it was a lot of money to her. This would pay half her rent which included her phone, heat, electricity, and hot water. "The Hit" could see that he was not only able to transfer money, but they would chat using the very popular ICQ Chat software developed by several Israelis. David and "The Hit" started going out to the restaurant to discuss the project on a regular basis in the evening, and he took hazing from the Mysterious Financier's crew in David's presence at the restaurant during the weekend. The Black Van was still making it's regular appearances in the back alley, and the PII computer kept barking out a news story about a huge drug bust on the Television. This meant nothing to "The Hit" other than it was definitely a big one. He just kept working on the project, and he was pleased to have a president of the company to add to the Onlineglass-com web site. His question still remained what was the origin of the Mysterious Financier?
